TBRI® Principles - Training Topics

Children who experienced distress in the womb or during delivery, were hospitalized early in life, were abused or neglected, or experienced trauma, whether natural or man-made need caring adults to help them heal. TBRI® Introduction & Overview will focus on understanding the meaning of child behaviors, the brain chemistry of a child from a hard place, and how to help children and families heal and connect.
OBJECTIVES
Evaluate TBRII® as an evidence based, trauma informed, holistic intervention rooted in attachment.
Recognize risk factors for trauma and the brain, as well as how trauma can cause changes to brain development, social development and learning.
Participants will demonstrate knowledge in how to help children and families get back on track by applying principles that work together to bring healing to children.

Connection is the foundation of TBRI®. TBRI® Connecting Principles will provide an in-depth look at connection and attachment and will give you strategies and skills for helping children and families heal.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES
Illustrate the attachment cycle and infant attachment
Identify the effects of insecure attachment on the ability to regulate behavior.
Recognize that our own attachment styles and histories influence the relationships we have with others.
Develop strategies and techniques that make it easier to relate to children in the ways they communicate best, non-verbally and through playful interaction.

TBRI® Empowering Principles will provide an in-depth look at proactive and responsive strategies for correcting behaviors. This session includes information on sensory processing and practical tools and skills to help children regulate their emotions and behaviors.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES
Discuss strategies to help teach children self-regulation through internal (physiological) and external (environmental) strategies.
Recognize the importance of felt safety and how it enables learning and growth in children
Illustrate mindset shift surrounding the question, “What is the need behind this behavior?”
Describe how trauma has affected the sensory systems of children and how these deficits are often mistaken as willful misbehavior.

TBRI® Correcting Principles will provide an in-depth look at strategies for correcting behaviors.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES
Recognize the importance of a balance between structure and nurture.
Identify that the goal of correction should be connection, contentment, and changed behavior.
Predict when and how to use proactive and responsive correcting strategies.
Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of play to disarm fear and mentor the capacity of our kids to regulate themselves.
Continuing Education
Many Crossroads’ trainings are approved for foster parent training hours, LPC CE hours, MCLEs, and clinical social work CE hours (typically 6 hours/credits for online courses or one full day in person training). Successful completion of course requirements is required to receive CEs. Crossroads has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7315. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Crossroads is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
