What is a TBRI® Practitioner?

TBRI® Practitioners are individuals who have successfully completed TBRI® Practitioner Training, a comprehensive two-part training hosted by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development. The TBRI® Practitioner Training experience is designed to prepare practitioners for working with children, families, and in systems of care impacted by trauma.

It includes 10-weeks of online coursework and a one-week intensive in-person training. Upon completing Practitioner Training, practitioners are able to use, train, and implement TBRI® within their professional capacity.

How do I apply to become a Practitioner?

  • Connect with Crossroads - Complete our Practitioner interest form, and we’ll schedule a time to talk with you about our Louisiana Practitioner Cohort, support Crossroads provides, and the application process. This meeting must take place before you complete your application for Practitioner training.

What is the Louisiana Practitioner Cohort?

As a TBRI® Ambassador Organization, Crossroads collaborates with Practitioners across Louisiana, and provides scaffolding and support for new Practitioners through our Practitioner Cohort.  In addition to this ongoing support, all potential Practitioner applicants meet with Crossroads staff as the first part of the application process. Each application period, the number of applicants the KPICD receives for Practitioner training exceeds available student spots. Because of this, the KPICD relies on Ambassador Organizations to provide recommendations for applicants. While a recommendation from Crossroads does not automatically equal acceptance, no applicants without a recommendation will be considered.

While a recommendation from Crossroads does not automatically equal acceptance, it’s helpful for applicants to be connected to an Ambassador Organization. Throughout the 10 week at home learning process, Crossroads staff will check in with you and be available to support you along your journey.  At Practitioner training, the cohort will have the opportunity to meet together in person with a Crossroads staff member. After practitioner training wraps, the cohort group will check in once a month for continued coaching, scaffolding and support.
